The research peptide market is largely unregulated, which means the gap between the best and worst suppliers is enormous — and almost invisible from a website. Here are the signals that actually separate them.

The single most important test
Ask for the Certificate of Analysis matching the lot number printed on your vial.
Not "a COA." Not the one on the product page. The one for your batch. This one request separates serious suppliers from the rest faster than anything else, because:
- A supplier who tests every batch can produce it in minutes.
- A supplier who tested once and reuses that certificate cannot — the lot numbers will not match.
- A supplier who does not test at all will stall, deflect, or send something generic.
If the lot on the certificate does not match the lot on the vial, the document describes someone else's product. It tells you nothing about what you are holding.
Eight red flags

| 7 | Prices far below everyone else | Synthesis and third-party testing cost real money. Dramatically cheaper usually means one of them was skipped. |
| 8 | No physical address or real contact route | If something goes wrong, you need a party who can be reached and held responsible. |
Four questions worth emailing before you order
- "Can you send the COA for the lot I'll receive?" — tests batch-level testing.
- "Which laboratory performs your analysis?" — tests independence.
- "Is every batch tested, or do you test periodically?" — tests consistency.
- "What is your purity release threshold?" — tests whether they have a standard at all.
The speed and specificity of the answers tells you as much as the content. A supplier with real documentation answers directly. A supplier without it produces paragraphs that never quite address the question.
Reading the certificate once you have it
Three lines carry most of the meaning:

What good looks like
- Batch-specific documentation, sent without friction
- An independent laboratory named on the certificate
- A stated purity threshold, with the measured value on the COA
- Clear Research Use Only framing — and a refusal to give usage guidance
- A reachable business with a real support route
That last point is worth dwelling on. A supplier who declines to advise you on use is not being unhelpful — they are being consistent. Materials sold for laboratory research come with documentation, not protocols. A supplier who happily explains how to use a research compound has quietly abandoned the category they claim to sell in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a peptide is real?
Mass spectrometry on the batch certificate confirms identity by matching measured molecular weight to the expected value. Without that document, you cannot verify identity from packaging or appearance alone.
What purity should I look for?
Reputable suppliers publish a release threshold, commonly 98% or higher, and report the measured value per lot. The threshold is the standard a batch must clear; the COA states what that specific batch actually measured.
Does a nice website mean a good supplier?
No. Web design is cheap and third-party testing is not. Documentation is the signal; presentation is not.
Why do prices vary so much?
Synthesis complexity, purity standards, batch testing and cold-chain shipping all cost money. A price far below the market usually reflects a skipped step — most often the testing.
Is it a red flag if a supplier won't tell me how to use a product?
The opposite. It is one of the clearest signs they understand what Research Use Only means.
